Black Anna forecast: Florida stores are poised to spend 4.5 percent more this holiday season than last year, experts say.

Ahead of big style’s biggest shopping weekend, retailers are tinkering with their formula to combine brick-and-mortar shopping with increased online options. The biggest players start their big sales on Thanksgiving night, after dinner, and close the night before opening on Friday morning. Big retailers compete for a share of the toy market by promoting big sales on Hatchimals, Legos, Disney dolls, Nerf blasters and other toys. Black Anna will be the first since Toys ‘R’ Us filed for bankruptcy and closed all of its US stores.

“We’re continuing a strong trend over the last few years,” said Scott Shelley, president of the Florida Retail Federation. “With high consumer confidence, people spend more.”
The Florida Retail Federation estimates that Florida stores will mirror the national estimate and spend $637.67 on gifts, $215 on food and decorations and another $154. Usually, this is a new record of multiple prices for the buyer. Gift cards are expected to be the top-selling gifts of the season for the 12th year in a row.
Stores like Walmart and Target are extending their first Black Friday sales online, following the lead of major online retailer Amazon, which has special offers starting Nov. 1. But most buyers still want to touch, feel and see certain things. According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, the majority of shoppers — 93 percent — will spend money this season at retailers with physical and digital presences.
If you’re looking for the biggest savings, major retailers have in-store-only sales and limited quantities of big-screen TVs and other premium tech products. To combat long lines, Walmart and Target have begun giving employees mobile tracking devices and expanded deals on in-store pickup.

Best Buy is closing five stores in the United States next month, the retailer confirmed to four local media outlets.

The retailer plans to close two stores in Richmond, Virginia and stores in Syracuse, New York, Carbondale, Illinois and Brockton, Massachusetts.
Best Buy has 977 U.S. stores in 2021, up from 956 locations in 2021, according to data on its website. It also notes that it has closed 12 stores since October 31, 2020. The electronics chain has had fewer stores every year since 2012.

Best Buy beat expectations in the third quarter, but that was mostly due to digital sales, and the company warned that things could slow further. Demand for home electronics and entertainment products generated revenue of $11.85 billion, up 20 percent from last year’s third quarter.

Despite the apparent volatility, executives declined to provide a forecast for the fourth quarter because the outlook looked bleak. This income has not been published yet.
