I would have liked to see some recommended activities for each chapter, but overall the book was great. I was glad to see an additional section on hospitality. First, I should mention that I am a physical therapy instructor and have a PhD in business, which is not a common combination. I was excited about the prospect of adding more business theory to my health services administration courses, but in my experience, the cost has historically been prohibitive for students. We use a specialized textbook on health care administration that ignores some of the most basic business skills. When the opportunity presented itself to review material that I could add to my course at no additional cost, I was very pleased. I find Fiddler bundled with the added bonus of my favorite Chapter 18 Personal Finance, which is a must for physical therapy students leaving school with a lot of debt!
I found the materials easy to read, well organized and error free. I really liked the links to external videos that supported the concepts. I believe that the presentation was impartial.

As this is the 2nd edition with a publication date of 2018, it was very up to date, but after I started reading the 2nd edition, I noticed that a 3rd edition (2020) had been released which updated the numbers, charts and some of the latest. legal changes Being able to turn the book around so quickly makes it even more valuable to me as a teacher and student. I appreciate the convenience of being able to send suggestions or corrections to the author and that they provide a test bank to support this stuff! It doesn’t get much better than this!
Well written and not too technical. The narrative flows smoothly from the beginning to the end of each chapter.
It’s very consistent from what I can tell. I didn’t notice a change in tone or terminology, but then again, I’m reading this through the eyes of someone with a PhD in business, so it feels very familiar.
When you go to the website, you can easily download each chapter separately [https://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/handle/10919/84848]. I first started going through the entire .pdf of the second edition and found that there were no bookmarks for each chapter, so flipping through was tedious. If possible, I would add that bit to the full .pdf, and they seem to have done that in the 3rd edition. However, thanks to the modular approach, there is no need to download the entire book in .pdf format.

It all starts with teamwork, which is perhaps one of the most important concepts in modern business. So I really appreciate that. The 18 chapters in the 2nd (and 3rd) edition cover all the basics of modern business. Of course, each chapter can be expanded into a separate book. For example, Chapter 14 is devoted to marketing, and there are entire textbooks on marketing, but that is beyond the scope of this book. The goal is to walk through all the major components of the business, rather than delving into every topic.
Again, I liked the interface with the online video. References appeared throughout the work. Adds a multimedia look to the words on the page.
I look forward to integrating this textbook into my Physical Therapy Health Services Administrator course, now I can learn business fundamentals to complement the health niche my students are getting! This book covers the general landscape of modern business quite well. Although nothing significant is “missing”, I wish the authors had provided a chapter that quickly takes students through the history of business and another that explores the futuristic aspects of business.
The content is accurate. Authors provided citations for key statements. References contain hyperlinks to additional scholarly resources on topics covered in the book.
The content is presented in an abbreviated form, which means that the book can withstand a long time. However, the dynamics of modern business could be captured better. The digital transformation of companies and societies has shortened the life cycle of knowledge. More focus on e-business and digital models would have made the book more relevant.
Ideas are organized systematically. Each chapter has a set of learning objectives that give students a point of reference. Students are encouraged to reflect on key questions from time to time. The answers to these questions are in the material under discussion. There are several keys at the end of each chapter. It facilitates the natural way of learning.

One chapter (Chapter 15: Hospitality and Tourism) does not make much sense. One might wonder why the authors devoted an entire chapter to the industry! Why not create similar sections for other industries? It seems that some author wrote a chapter for another purpose, which should have been inserted into this book. There are also many other examples and case studies related to tourism in this book. On the plus side, this book has additional benefits for hospitality and tourism students.
