Los Angeles Sentinel: We meet again! You mentioned Weber’s The Family Business novel when I interviewed you for NAPPILY EVER AFTER. By the way, you look great in a Netflix movie and producer Tracey Bing has a lot of nice things to say about you, FYI.
The Family Business
Ernie Hudson: I remember you. Is it [Bing]? It’s a big job. You’re right, I appreciate everything Carl [Weber] wrote.
EH: I have worked in television and film for the past 50 years. When I read Carl Weber’s book, there are eight novels in this series about this strong black family, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. My job as an EP is really doing what I can to help raise awareness, to help him and the industry do this. It solves a lot of problems I think I see in society.
It may not seem like it at first glance, as the story revolves around a family that owns a large car dealership in the country, which is a legitimate business. They also have some illegal activities Patriarch L.C. Duncan, who I play, uses it to build his company and brings the whole family into the family business. But for me it’s about family.
EH: Family. How can you leave a legacy to your children when you understand that all these people you set out to build something are waiting for the right opportunity to come, you become stronger and you think that the sunset of the army [ but] don’t. let that happen quickly. So the big question is how do you make sure your kids don’t pay for [past] choices?

EH: Carl Webber is amazing. He has his own publisher (Urban Books Media) and his book is truly amazing. I would encourage you to read them. He collaborated with Trey Haley, who directed two films, these are the films that BET decided to report, but in eight series. Trey’s company is Tri Destined Studios. It’s an amazingly talented group.
EH: (laughs) Yes, it is. I think many times as an African-American it is difficult to find those jobs that allow you to show 360 degrees of character, and they are great jobs.
EH: Yes, it is. It’s amazing because most people can’t make that change. I fear Carl Webber. Many people talk about certain things, but here is one man who actually does it.
I grew up in a house where my mother died when I was very young. I never met my father. My grandmother raised me in the Church. But Carl was a man who grew up in his family and was a good father to him, who taught him a lot about the business. Carl, in addition to owning Urban Book Media, owns [a company] that buys and manages real estate. And he had some friends that he went to school with [and] they were all black boys hanging out with. I’ve heard people talk about it, but seeing these guys run their own business. I have to take my hat off to them. It’s really interesting. I am still learning from Carl and everyone around him. Black people do things. Making things happen As I said before, people talk, but yes!
