Cathay Pacific Airbus A330 Business Class – Ben says: Asia has a lot of flexibility when it comes to business class, so it was nice to be able to get a flat bed for a short flight.

I booked a Cathay Pacific Business Class award ticket from Singapore to Toronto. The reason I chose to fly to Toronto is because the Hong Kong to Toronto flight that day was a Cathay Pacific North American flight operated by an A350-1000, which is the aircraft I wanted to review.

I booked the ticket using 70,000 American AAdvantage miles and $66.10 in taxes and fees, which I’d say is a lot.

I note that I could theoretically also redeem 50,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles for the ticket, which is an even better value. However, when I called Alaska, unfortunately they could not see the location of the award. Check out this post for the best credit cards to earn Alaska Mileage Plan miles.

After a fun day of shopping and lounging, I headed back to Terminal 4 for my Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong. My flight was departing from gate G18 at the end of the terminal, and was scheduled to board at 7:35pm.

Actually, the flight was a bit late as the plane arrived from Hong Kong only at 19:25.

I entered through the front left door where I was greeted by the flight attendant and one of the business class flight attendants and pointed to my seat. This A330-300 configuration had a total of 39 business class seats.

There were 28 business class seats in the front cabin, and 11 seats in a cabin behind the second doors.

Note that Cathay Pacific’s A330 has two types of business class seats: some have reverse seats (in a 1-2-1 configuration), others have reclining seats (in a 2-2-2 configuration). There is a big difference in the quality of these seats.

Considering that many regional flights are operated by aircraft equipped with long-haul jets, finding one of these aircraft if possible is highly recommended.

Cathay Pacific has very standard Cirrus reverse seats on their long-haul A330s. These reverse seats are slightly narrower than the seats you’ll find on wide-body aircraft.

I assigned myself seat 18A, the last row seat in the left business class cabin.

In front of the seats are entertainment controls, seat controls, power outlets and a small storage compartment for headphones.

The tray table extends to the left of the seat, and can be folded in half.

There is also a small storage compartment on the left side under the seat; as you can see the seat was starting to show some wear.

There was a pillow waiting on my seat, and then I also asked for a blanket, which was soon brought to me. While not as good as Cathay Pacific’s long haul, it’s good enough for a regional flight.

About 10 minutes after boarding the plane, the crew entered the cabin with pre-departure drinks, a choice of water, orange juice and champagne. I had a glass of water.

At 20:15 the captain welcomed us on board and informed us that the flight time to Hong Kong was 3 hours 25 minutes. Wendy, the in-flight service manager, then greeted her.

It was announced that the flight was with Mongolian Airlines; interestingly, it is the only codeshare partner on this flight.

Cathay Pacific Flight 780

At around 8:20 the main cabin doors closed (business class had just filled up), and a moment later we started our push and the safety video was projected. We took a very quick taxi, and we were on the plane at 20:35.

When we boarded I selected the map and entertainment for the flight. Cathay Pacific’s A330 inflight entertainment is low resolution and not very responsive – their newer planes have higher quality and more responsive screens.

It was such a good choice, although these days Cathay Pacific has about four minutes of commercials before any show, which is too much; on the positive side, they are easily overtaken.

Unfortunately this A330 does not have Wi-Fi. I was a little confused because I thought I saw a Wi-Fi “dome” on the plane, and I saw online that the plane had Wi-Fi installed. So I’m not sure if it just didn’t open or if I’m just completely wrong?

The seat belt signal was turned off five minutes into the flight, and the menu was distributed 15 minutes into the flight.

A few minutes later the flight attendant came through the cabin to welcome me on board – Cathay Pacific does a great job looking after Oneworld Emerald members.

30 minutes after checkout the first round of drinks came out of the cart. I ordered the Cathay Delight with coconut milk, fresh mint and kiwi. This is, in my opinion, one of the best cold and non-alcoholic beverages of any airline. It was served with some mixed nuts.

Salads and entrees are served one hour after the flight. Although Cathay Pacific has streamlined the long-haul dining concept, regional flights still take an “assembly line” approach to service, with most items served from carts.

The starter was cured salmon with citrus fennel salad and crème frâchcumber roll, followed by a mesclun salad with cucumber, radish and tomato. I also selected garlic bread from the bread basket.

About 70 minutes after take off I was asked what I wanted for my main course. It was not served from a cart, but brought directly to my seat on a tray. I ordered Prawn and Fish Cake Laksa, it was amazing.

Then they took some time to serve dessert, as they cleared everyone’s main trays first, and then came from the cabin with a dessert cart. So after about two hours I was asked if I wanted some fruit and cheese, which was great.

Then about 2 hours and 20 minutes after take off they came to the cabin with Häagen-Dazs ice cream, coffee and tea, even though I passed.

The quality of the food was very good, in my opinion. The crew was also friendly and attentive, addressing me by name in almost every conversation.

However, I don’t like the assembly service approach they took. The meal service is quite long, although I imagine most people aren’t trying to sleep on this short overnight flight.

After lunch I checked out the toilets – there are two at the front of the cabin, and then one between the two business class cabins on the starboard side.

Shortly after lunch we were leaving for Hong Kong. At 23:25 the captain announced that we were at 39,000 feet, and that we would soon descend to land at 12:00.

Cathay Dragon A330 Business Class Overview

Our landing was smooth, and the seat belt signal was about 15 minutes before landing. When we landed the flight attendant came through the cockpit again to thank people for flying with Cathay Pacific.

I cleared immigration early and went to the attached Regal Airport Hotel Hong Kong for a very short night’s sleep (I only went to bed at 2am because I had some work to do, then woke up at 4am so I could check out some of the lounges here. … airport) .

Getting a perfectly flat inverted seat on an intra-Asian flight is a real treat. The seats were comfortable, the crew was friendly and the food was good.

However, the A330 cabin is starting to show its age, between the seats and the low-resolution entertainment system.

Also, Cathay Pacific’s food service on intra-Asia flights is very well prepared. I’m not sure it’s objectively bad, some might like it on an evening flight, although I personally wouldn’t like it if it was too fast. My Cathay Pacific A330 flight from Hong Kong to Colombo was smooth, but not remarkable. . Maybe I was too high after a wonderful trip in first class from Beijing and to the pier?

I got to the gate a few minutes after boarding started, but it didn’t start. A few minutes later, business class passengers were invited to board first. I disembarked from the jetbridge and was the first to board.

I assigned him a window seat before the flight, but I didn’t get a good look at the window seat. I’m sitting on the bulkhead seat in the small aft business class cabin.

Review: Cathay Dragon Business Class A320

As I explained in my teaser post on this flight, there was something I didn’t like about seat 20A. A cabinet in front of the seat blocked my view of the cabin, creating an enclosed area that felt more claustrophobic than private.
