Does New Zealand seem out of place when you look at the world map? In fact, depending on where you’re coming from, flying from the West Coast of the US to New Zealand is easier than flying from the West Coast to Europe. One reason is that the flight time to New Zealand is around 12 hours (see flight time map), but the time zones are similar (within three hours). This can lead to overcoming any jet lag issues.

New Zealand is a three-and-a-half-hour flight from eastern Australia, a direct overnight flight from the United States, and about a 10-hour flight from most Pacific Rim destinations such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Most flights from the US West Coast depart in the evening and take about 12 hours (from Vancouver 14 hours), which means you can expect to sleep in (!) – have a drink and maybe a movie once you’re there. When flying from Europe, the flight time is approx. 24 hours (two flights approx. 11-12 hours). Most travelers recommend a 24-hour layover in Asia (think Hong Kong, Bangkok, Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo). The city is a place where you can relax and spend a few hours exploring the amazing stops in Asia before finishing your trip.
Try to take advantage of some great deals and book early. We recommend our national carrier, Air New Zealand, which was voted Airline of the Year 2016. This airline has been flying our skies for over 75 years and has alliances with many major airlines. Most airlines fly to Auckland International Airport in the north of the country. Internationals also visit Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch (in the South Island) and Wellington and Rotorua in the North Island.

New Zealand is the first place in the world where the sun was seen – the inspiration for the name First Light Travel. When you travel across North America, you cross the International Date Line, which means you travel through time to get here. So if you leave San Francisco on Friday night, you land in Oakland on Sunday morning. Sure, you might feel like you’ve lost a day, but you’ll get it back on the way back. If you’re traveling in Europe, you’ll have to move in time, but that time will come back to you when you get home.
“Every time you go from North America to Australia and no one asks you how you’re feeling, you take a day off when you cross the international date. I left Los Angeles on January 3rd and arrived in Sydney four hours later on January 5th. There was no January 4th for me. Not at all. I can’t tell exactly where he went. All I know is that in the history of the world, I have never had anyone in twenty-four hours.
I feel uneasy to say the least. So if you’re looking through your ticket folder and see a notice that says “Passengers are advised that some crossings may be delayed for up to twenty-four hours” (which of course they will be. It’s phrased as if it happens from time to time), you might get up and ask, take your sleeve and say, “Excuse me.” It has to be said that there is some metaphorical comfort in knowing that you can end up with a physical form and it doesn’t hurt at all, and frankly, it will give you a day of travel back. are Cross the date line in the opposite direction, so you somehow manage to get to Los Angeles before you leave Sydney, which is obviously a good trick.”

New Zealand has only two domestic airlines – Air New Zealand and Jetstar. Although Air New Zealand’s network is extensive, it can be expensive outside of capital cities, ironically Jetstar has a monopoly on most routes as it only serves major hubs. Although New Zealand is a small country, it is split between two islands, so flying is essential, especially if you are short on time. All domestic flights are quick and painless and can save you valuable driving time. Petrol is expensive in New Zealand (currently $2.10 a litre) so flying cheap domestically can save you a lot of money.
Cheap Flights From Oakland To Queenstown
Air New Zealand is a great airline. Even though you have to pay an extra $10 for checked baggage, it’s still a full-service airline. On domestic flights you get tea, coffee and kiwi inspired refreshments along with inflight entertainment (depending on the flight. Not to mention their hilarious safety videos! Air New Zealand thinks big about social media. Some interesting things to promote their airline.
GrabSet is the home of cheap Air New Zealand flights. New special offers are posted daily and a fixed amount of fares are available at discounted rates on certain dates. Most Grabaseat plans range from $39 to $79 and dates range from a week to a month or longer. Download the Grabaseat app and set notifications for the routes you want. Sign up with Grabseat on Facebook and get early warning about big sales.
Flights between major hubs are often cheaper, but GrabSeat’s real value is on routes where Jetstar doesn’t compete. These fares are usually more expensive and with Grabaseat you can save significantly on routes from Christchurch to Tauranga, Wellington to Napier or Auckland to Dunedin.
Grabaseat holds reverse auctions every Tuesday. Each auction is for a specific route on a specific date, usually for two people and usually for a return flight. The clock is ticking and the price is starting to drop. When the fee reaches the price you are willing to pay, you buy. Most of the tickets sold are for travel within a week or two.
