Yes, this is Emirates Business Class. Based in Dubai (DXB), the world-renowned airline operates a handful of non-stop routes connecting the US to Europe, including New York (JFK) to Milan (MXP). Best of all, they are the Airbus A380, which is decorated with a built-in bar. It doesn’t get any cooler than that, does it?
Oh, I’ll do you one better: you can book these flights to Europe from just 90,000 miles away – a fraction of what most airlines charge and what Emirates itself charges for the same seats flying to Dubai. Thanks to this great space, I tried Business Class last month. Read on for a full review of the not-quite-perfect-but-still-cool boat.
You don’t just have to book Emirates Business Class to get a taste of the experience of flying on a Middle Eastern airline to and from Europe. You book it because it’s a good thing.
The timing is right and you can book a Business Class seat on Emirates to Europe and back for just 90,000 miles…all. This applies to all the five free routes of the Emirate: between New York and Milan, and the flight from Newark (EWR) to Athens (ATH).
Emirates Bringing Back A380 Bar & Showers!
Getting all those Emirates miles is easy: you can transfer them from Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi and even Bilt Rewards. That means accumulating 90,000 points on cards like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, American Express® Gold Card, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Citi Premier® Card is all you need, as all those points transfer instantly to Emirates transfer 1. :1.
And best of all, these European routes don’t incur any additional fees like almost all other Emirates flights, including to and from Dubai (DXB). That means you can reserve these seats for 90,000 miles and for less than $250 total.
The problem is that it can be difficult to find an affordable date. It depends on finding the cheapest free seat on these return requests. So if that’s not the case, you’ll instead see 145,000 miles worth of awards (and sometimes even more, ouch). And you can only get this great deal if you book round-trip, with one-way awards worth 72,500 miles or more each way.

Remember, you have to book a return trip to fly Emirates Business Class for 45,000 miles each way… and that means you have to apply for the return as well. This can make it a challenge with patience and trial and error.
Go to Emirates.com and start searching for Classic Rewards on the home page. Make sure to select “Your dates are flexible (-/+ 3 days)” before checking out. Find the result at 117,500 miles: This means one way is to find the best price, a 45,000 mile trip – in this case, a return flight from Milan to New York.
From there, just adjust the rest of the part every week until you find something that works at 90,000 miles. Again, to emphasize: it may take a lot of trial and error to get this working. Don’t think you’ll be traveling to Italy in Emirates Business Class in mid-July or August.
Don’t want to issue transactions both ways? Do what I did: book a mixed domestic ticket and fly business class one way and first class one way for 130,000 miles. That’s 45,000 miles for the Business Class segment and 85,000 miles for standard one-way travel. Or you can roll the dice and upgrade from Emirates Business to First Class… on the day of departure!

Oh, and here’s a tip: book the Emirates First Class flight home from Italy – it’s longer and flies during the day, giving you more daylight to enjoy the experience than the short overnight flight from New York to Italy.

Whether you’re flying to Milan or Dubai (DXB), all Emirates flights from New York (JFK) depart from Terminal 4. And luckily there are additional check-in dates for vaccination records or recent negative tests for COVID-19. It’s been a while – Europe is open as 2019 again, so getting in is easy. Business travelers with first class tickets have a special machine.
From there, it’s a quick trip through security (which is fast thanks to TSA PreCheck and CLEAR) and to Gate A, where Emirates has its own lounge for all business and first class passengers, as well as other Emirates travelers. status. The lounge is currently open from 6.40am to 10.40am before the first Emirates flight to Dubai and from 6pm. until 23:00. for other flights, including the route to Milan.

It’s convenient to get here before your flight, but otherwise the Emirates Terminal at JFK is great…not amazing. It’s basically a large room with lots of armchairs. Appropriate, yes. Weird, wrong. However, access to the living room is access to the living room.
There is a good range of snacks and a small hot buffet. Unless you’re looking for a bite to eat or a mezzo plate for yourself, I recommend having dinner at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse JFK lounge next to the lounge or the JFK Centurion Lounge. You can access both programs with the American Express Platinum Card®, while the Capital One Venture X Rewards credit card gives you access to the Virgin Lounge thanks to Plaza Premium Lounge access.
The lounge also has two spacious drinking areas where you can prepare your cocktail, drink water or soft drink, make a cappuccino or latte, or pour yourself a glass of wine from a chilled bottle. In the Emirates, both Veuve Clicquot and Moet & Chandon settled on champagne, a good problem.
The lounge itself may be pretty forgettable, but there’s one big reason to get here before your flight: you can enter straight from the lounge… at least if you’re flying from Gate A6. Check-in from the lounge is something new that you won’t find in many airports, and I was lucky: the flight to Milan that evening was through gate A6.

The hall staff gave the announcement as the boarding time was approaching until they met the passengers who were on their way to Milan to check in at the corner of the room.
It’s a fun experience to skip the door and walk straight from the lounge to the jet bridge…especially when the jet bridge reaches the top deck of the Airbus A380. After the outbreak, Emirates re-flew its signature double-decker A380s with this flight to Milan last year. Currently, the flight from Newark (EWR) to Athens (ATH) is operated by an old Boeing 777.
A big house? Yes. Wide seats? Yes. Access directly to the corridor? Check out the bar on board to meet other travelers? Of course there is! A little over the top, even tacky? Yes, that too.
With the exception of Emirates First Class (with those showers up front), the Emirates Business Class cabin takes up almost the entire upper deck of the A380. It is divided into two compartments – a long cabin in the front and a small cabin in the back – for a total of 76 business seats. That’s a lot of living space.

A luxurious seating area with all the bling, wood grain and gold above the lighting combine to make boarding a little… let’s call it amazing. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really cool! But even Emiratis know that this look needs a facelift. The airline has recently embarked on a radical refresh, bringing maturity (and date) to the understated: soft leather, wood-encrusted trim and the occasional gold trim. The A380 is expected to be refurbished in 2024, after which Emirates will give its old Boeing 777 some much-needed love.
