There are no entry requirements related to COVID-19 for domestic travelers. Travelers arriving in Hawaii directly from an international airport must still comply with US federal entry requirements. CDC no longer requires passengers traveling to the United States from abroad to provide documentation of a negative test for the COVID-19 virus or recovery from COVID-19 prior to boarding. However, non-US citizens still need proof of a COVID-19 vaccine to enter the US.
The key to answering this question is how many stops you will have to make to get to your final destination in Hawaii. Each stop usually adds a few hours to the waiting time of your trip. There are a few direct flights from the East Coast (if you’re in New York, you’re in luck!), and most routes include a stopover at one of the West Coast airports.
Second, most flights from the mainland to Hawaii arrive at Honolulu (HNL) on the island of Oahu, where you have to fly inter-island to the Big Island. This last step often adds several hours to the total flight time and is well worth it when looking for direct flights to the Big Island.
