For example, Andersen’s renewable limited warranty (applicable to replacement windows installed after May 1, 2016) includes 20 years of coverage on Fiberx material components. Frames, mirrors and exterior grilles are guaranteed not to chip, rust, blister, flake, crack, scratch or scratch – and to be free from defects in construction, materials and workmanship – through this period. Prepare the painted surfaces by lightly sanding the frames and wings with fine sandpaper or steel wool. The slightly thicker surface allows the paint to bond better to the surface of the frame. Be careful not to sand the glass surfaces as this cannot be reversed. Use a clean brush to remove the dust, then clean the surface with a mild cleaning solution. Keep your hands clean or use latex or nitrile gloves when doing this, as finger oils can affect the finish.
Prime the joinery with a fast-drying alkyd primer in a neutral color. As your replacement window company, we recommend using the KILZ® brand. Make sure you have adequate ventilation during the procedure to avoid inhaling the fumes. After the primer has completely dried, you can now apply an oil- or water-based top coat. Allow all painted surfaces to dry completely before closing windows.

If you’re not sure how long it will take painted surfaces to dry, be careful and let it dry all day. Reinstalling the sashes or closing the windows too quickly can damage the paint finish. Also, be very careful when painting the upstairs windows. Finally, keep in mind that windows will be left open for long periods of time, so you may want to paint your windows when allergy season is over.
