Speaker 1: [00:02:25] Oh, you’re one of my favorite people in the whole world to talk to. So I spent 20 minutes picking your brain before I hit the record. So hopefully we can get good content out there for everyone to hear. Ok so I want to start with your business journey, how you started your business, why you started your business and where you are today.
Speaker 2: [00:02:46] My entrepreneurial journey probably started like many people and I was looking for a way to make money from home. I was actually pregnant at the time and I was babysitting, a little bit here and there. We were really poor living in a basement apartment. It’s just, you know, it’s not easy. My husband had to work 13 hours a day, so we hardly saw each other. I was like, oh my god, I just want a way to contribute. If I’m really honest. So this is my second child. I’m kind of bored. I just have to do something. So I know, I tried a lot of different companies. I sell jeans on eBay and love this freezer kitchen accessory. It just didn’t really take off. It’s like manual labor, even like selling jeans. I want to take my children to the store. Then we had to run to the post office to send them all that and it just didn’t work. So a friend suggested I become a virtual assistant. I had never heard of virtual assistants before. I really don’t know what it is. But that night I was surfing the internet and reading all about how virtual assistants can help small business owners. I can use the skills I already have, how to price and package my services, and literally just read random blog posts online. I said, I’ll be a virtual assistant. The next day I started calling myself.
Episode 15: How To Build A 4 Million Dollar Medical Practice
Speaker 2: [00:04:21] I know I live in Washington, DC. So the first thing I did was look for local networking events, went to my first networking event, followed up with a few clients and landed my first client within the first week. It’s incredible because I work from home. My little daughter has been playing for about a year and a half I think. I sit there and work and make money. I was like, oh my god, this is true. Like, it really happened. So I think it was a light bulb moment to use the skills I had to gain at home. So I went on to build a larger virtual assistant business. I hired my own subcontractors to help me get the job done, which was great because not only was I helping myself, but the people I hired were just my friends. It’s other moms, other stay-at-home moms that I like. Hey, you did graphics in college. You do the social networking for me. Hi, looks like you wrote a very nice Facebook post. I bet you can be a songwriter.
Speaker 2: [00:05:32] We kind of hired a friend of mine to help me do some contractor work. So I grew this mini-agency out of my basement apartment. Now I am doing internet marketing and I have discovered a whole world. Like this underworld, you only know it exists if you are in it. Then you wonder what it is?
Speaker 1: [00:05:57] Try to explain, I told “Your Real World Friends” and they think you’re crazy.
Speaker 2: [00:06:03] Get it. So I started following a guy named Brian Harris. He owns a company called Video Fruit. Now Growth Tools is his business. I still have a lot of respect for him because he was such a visionary and broke internet marketing in such an amazing way. So I started following him as I read each blog post. I mean, I’m going to work on that person, like I have to figure out how to work on that person. So I ended up emailing him, which took me about two weeks. I created a class for him. I wrote a blog post and made a run out of it. Well, that’s what I did for you. You can set it as a connection. I do not care. I just want to give it to you. here. It’s a marketing value I teach now because he’s my absolute dream client. He said let’s call. We need to chat. He eventually hired me to write copy for his team. I worked for him for about a year and a half, a year and a half. It’s wonderful. It’s like the highest paying internship for him because this guy, you know
