Deploying Ibm Cloud Pak For Data On Red Hat Openshift Service On Aws

The AWS CloudFormation Quick Start template includes customizable configuration parameters. Some configuration options, such as instance type, affect deployment costs. For cost estimates, see the pricing page for each AWS service you use. Prices are subject to change.

After using the quickstart, create an AWS Usage and Cost report to send billing metrics to the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket in your account. The report provides cost estimates based on monthly usage and aggregates data at the end of the month. For more information, see What are AWS usage and cost reports?

You can start with a 60-day trial or use the Cloud Pak for Data entitlement. Additional costs depend on the type of memory of your platform. You can choose from three storage classes: Amazon EFS, Portworx, or OCS. EFS fees are automatically billed to your AWS account. You have the option to use the trial version of Portworx or the evaluation version of OCS. Visit Portworx or OCS for licensed versions.

This deployment requires a certain level of familiarity with AWS services. If you’re new to AWS, visit Getting Started with AWS and Training and Certification. The site provides learning materials for planning, deploying, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure and applications.

This quickstart assumes basic knowledge of Cloud Pak for Data components and services. If you are new to Cloud Pak for Data and Red Hat OpenShift, see Additional Resources.

If you don’t already have an AWS account, create one at https://aws.amazon.com by following the on-screen instructions. Part of the registration process involves receiving a phone call and entering a PIN using the phone’s keypad.

Data Fabric, Explained

Your AWS account is automatically registered for all AWS services. You only pay for the services you use.

Before starting Quick Start, your account must be configured as described in the table below. Otherwise, the deployment may fail.

If necessary, request a service charge increase for the following resources. You may need to request an increase if an existing deployment is using these resources and if this fast-start deployment may cause the default quota to be exceeded. The Service Quota Console displays usage and quotas for certain aspects of certain services. For more information, see What are the service costs? and AWS services.

This release includes 3 Availability Zones, which are not currently supported in all AWS Regions. For a list of currently supported regions, see Regions and Availability Zones in the AWS documentation.

Make sure that at least one Amazon EC2 key pair exists in your AWS account in the region where you plan to deploy Quick Start. Note the name of the key pair. You need it during deployment. To create a key pair, see Key Pairs for Amazon EC2 and Linux Instances.

For testing or proof of concept, it is recommended to generate a new key pair instead of using the one already used in the production case.

Before starting the quickstart, you must sign in to the AWS Management Console with IAM permissions for the resource deploying the template. O

Policies managed by IAM provide reasonable permissions, although your organization may choose to use custom policies that are more restrictive. For more information, see Policies for AWS Managed Work Roles.

Overview Of Cloud Pak For Data As A Service

This Quick Start requires a Red Hat subscription. During the quickstart deployment, ensure the infrastructure extraction secret provided by the OpenShift installer.

If you don’t have a Red Hat account, you can sign up on the Red Hat website. (Registration requires a non-personal email address). To obtain a 60-day evaluation license for OpenShift, follow the instructions in Evaluate Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.

OpenShift pull secrets must be uploaded to an S3 bucket. Quickstart extracts this secret file from the specified S3 bucket location to provision the cluster.

After you deploy Quickstart, you can activate a production instance by entering the API key included as part of the Cloud Pak for data rights. If you do not have payment rights, you can create a 60-day trial subscription key.

Ibm Cloud Pak For Data

Quick Start provides a separate template for these options. It also allows configuration of Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) blocks, instance types, and Cloud Pak settings for data as described in this guide.

If you are using Cloud Pak for data in an existing VPC, ensure that your VPC has two private subnets in different Availability Zones for workload instances and that the subnets are not shared. This quickstart does not support shared subnets. This subnet needs a NAT pass in the routing table so that it can transport packets and software without being exposed to the Internet. Also, make sure that the domain name option in the DHCP options is set as described in the DHCP options set. You provide the VPC settings when you run the Quick Start.

After an AWS CloudFormation template successfully creates a stack, all server nodes are running software installed in your AWS account. In the following steps, connect to the Cloud Pak for Data web client to verify the deployment, and then explore the features of Cloud Pak for Data using the web client.

Boot node instances are used for certain command-line cluster administration tasks, such as adding compute nodes. SSH access to the boot node is required for some cluster administrators.

To use SSH access to OpenShift cluster instances through the fortress host, use the SSH Forward agent as follows in the bash instructions.

If you decide to shrink the cluster or reduce the number of compute nodes, there is a risk that the cluster will become unstable because the blocks will have to be redistributed. Abandoning worker nodes is not a recommended option.
