Lot Boeing 787 Business Class
Whenever I look at United.com for award flights to/from Europe, one airline comes up most often: LOT Polish Airlines.
Boeing 787 8 Dreamliner
Poland’s flag carrier is arguably one of the more generous Star Alliance airlines when it comes to awarding premium class, but the 2-2-2 layout in business class needs to be pulled back a bit (it flies from Western Europe to Warsaw first) , I’m not particularly keen on trying too much.
Until a flight showed up that fit my schedule perfectly and returned home from Bergen, Norway (BGO) on the right day – and stretched a lot. Whatever happened, I knew the experience would be no more disappointing than JT Genter’s last premium economy flight out of Chicago.
Aeroplan offers the most reasonable Star Alliance Business Class redemption to and from Europe, so I would consider booking through that program. A one-way fare is 57,500 miles, plus about $50 in taxes. Note that Aeroplan does not currently display LOT award seats on their website, so you will need to search for available seats on United’s website and call 800-361-5373 to book your ticket.
I chose to book through United at 70,000 miles because the airline’s 1K counters have been particularly helpful for flight delays or cancellations in the past. However, things didn’t go so well this time either, which you can read about here.
Lot Operates Dreamliner On Singapore
If you’d like to book a similar flight through Aeroplan or United MileagePlus, it’s easy to earn points in either program. Aeroplan is a transit partner for American Express Membership Rewards, which means you can earn the miles you need for a one-way flight just by earning the American Express The Platinum Card® sign-up bonus, which currently offers $60,000. Earn Membership Rewards points after spending $5,000 in the first three months of account opening. If you prefer to book through United, consider signing up for a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, which offers 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in the first three months of account opening.
If I decide to pay in cash, I can buy a one-way ticket from Warsaw (WAW) for about $1,950, which is not bad for business class.
Due to my delays, I finally arrived in Warsaw around 12:30. I took an $8 Uber to the old town, spent an hour exploring and had lunch there before heading back to the airport.
Business class passengers have access to a special boarding area – it’s almost completely empty, as is the “LOT business class meeting point” around the corner.

WAW offers special screening as part of Star Alliance’s “Golden Lane” program – business class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members can use fast-track security checkpoints, which are also mostly empty.
This was my first time at Warsaw airport and I must say I was very impressed. It’ll never rank among the most beautiful airport terminals, but it’s not a great place to spend a layover.
They even have a small area reserved for the kids with a giant plane where they can play.
I headed straight to the LOT business class lounge, economy class is available to both LOT Elite and Star Alliance Gold members.

I asked for a shower – after waiting about 20 minutes I was given a key and told to go to the men’s room where I hoped to find a shower. Instead, it’s just a cubicle — not much bigger than a normal toilet, actually. And it didn’t feel particularly clean.
After my worst airport shower experience ever, I checked into a special elite club lounge reserved for Star Alliance Gold members.
There is also a completely empty lounge – since I can’t use wifi at all, if I have more than a few minutes to kill, I choose to hang out there.
When I first arrived, a chef (or someone dressed as a chef) was refilling the hot food so they were extra fresh.

The main hall also has the same products, and you won’t miss a lot if you don’t get in.
There is a smaller 3rd party lounge near the international gate, but I found it cumbersome and the Wi-Fi didn’t work there either. Instead, I’m sure to spend most of my time in the LOT main salon.
After a few minutes, I headed for our gate. We closed late due to the storm, but started boarding after a 30 minute wait.
I was at the front of the line, first on board, hoping to snap some photos of the empty cabin. However, something is wrong with my boarding pass. After a bit of confusion, a gate agent concluded that I had been selected for secondary screening and sent me to a designated checkpoint a few meters away. I wasn’t on their list, so security waited until they figured out what was going on. In the end, they decided to scan me anyway and send me back to the gate, where I was one of the last people to board.
Trip Report: Lot Polish (b787 8) Business Waw Ord
LOT has 8 787-8 Dreamliners with 18 business class seats and 3 newer 787-9s with 24 business class seats which I happened to fly. My aircraft SP-LSB is one of the newest additions to the LOT fleet, delivered only a month ago.
I was unable to take a photo of my seats 4A and 4B as my neighbors were already at home when I boarded.
However, 4E and F were still empty, so I took pictures of the two seats – they were on the right side of the plane, but otherwise identical to where I sat.
These special seats offer little privacy, as I have experienced on Turkish A330s and Air India 787s. There are no retractable partitions, they are exposed to the rest of the cabin. 4A and 4F seem to offer the most privacy as they are facing the windows and have partitions behind them. I also didn’t find the kitchen noise annoying, despite SeatGuru pointing it out.
What It’s Like To Fly Business Class On Lot Polish Airlines
Our 787-9 had the usual Dreamliner lavatory – a bit too small for comfortable diaper changes, but otherwise fine. Three are available for business class passengers, one at the rear of the cabin and two more near the galley at the rear of the cabin.
While I prefer a privateer design, especially on a brand new 787, I always prefer to fly on a Dreamliner — especially if I can squeeze in a window seat.
The electronically tinted windows are an absolute plus – I was able to look out of them throughout the flight without disturbing my neighbors.
Aside from the lack of privacy, I was also disappointed with the amount of storage space – the only place I could put my phone and camera, other than the compartment under the upholstery, was on the top of the IFE wired remote (thankfully, it’s detachable) . ).

A sealed package was waiting for me on my seat, with pillows, blankets, and a makeup bag.
The toiletry kit isn’t too exciting, but it has all the essentials, including dental kit, toothpaste, face cream, eye mask, earplugs, and most importantly, disposable socks.
LOT also offers headphones, but they’re terrible. I wouldn’t even take them out of the package.
The seats are very high, but that also means the 15-inch in-flight entertainment system feels particularly small when you lean back in it.

It’s a great mix of new releases and international films, including a section dedicated to Polish films.
There are also some TV shows to choose from, but only individual episodes, not entire seasons.
I also like to keep an eye on our location via the touchscreen remote while watching a movie on the home screen.
The remote is difficult to use, though—the screen is unresponsive, and since the main screen is so far away, it takes a lot of effort to select a show from there.
