The 40 new flats will be affordable under a transfer agreement from the city council. which is the board of directors of the redevelopment agency created in 2020. The affordable unit includes 31 studios, five one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments, with less space than double the market rates.
Affordability refers to those making between 60-80% of the AMI, which in Salt Lake County is between about $39,000 and $49,250.

RDA purchased the theater for $5.5 million in 2010 from a local developer. Trying to find a way to revive the theater and attract developers and tenants.
Renderings released this week of Main Street Apartments show the park atop a three-story garage. The park is accessed via a corridor between the New Building and Cairns North Tower, rendered by Dwell Design Studio.
The space included in the exchange for the council’s gift would be a public park above the three-storey garage and the public square separating the new building from the Kearns Building next door to the south.
Pantages Park, a building commemorating the newly constructed playhouse, sits above a parking garage, with 261 stalls across four floors (one basement), accessible from either 100 South or West Temple.

“The tower and its associated residential concourse are set back from High Street (approximately 10 feet), providing relief to the masses at the street wall and providing pedestrian guidance to plazas, walkways and parks,” the developer writes.
The walking paths and parks are an effort to better serve the public. And the building has increased pedestrian access to Main Street in a prime location close to growing Regent Street.
An opportunity may have been missed to extend the corridor to the west, joining the private right of way which aligns with Regent Street and the West Temple.
