Last Kingdom season 4 left us with mixed feelings. We’ve lost great characters throughout the season, but where did everyone who lived go in the season finale?

Throughout Season 4 of The Last Kingdom, we’ve definitely been squeezed together. Beloved characters die, while some of the more annoying ones make it into another season. Let’s skip ahead to the end of the season and see where everyone left off.
The Last Kingdom Cast: Which New Characters Are Joining Season Five?
I’ll be honest; like the season 3 finale, there seemed to be a relatively fitting ending. It’s like the writers knew there was a chance the show could end. The season’s storylines don’t leave us with major cliffhangers, but now that it’s over, it’s easy to imagine what’s next.
Season 5. But it’s not about that. We take a look at how our favorite (and least favorite) characters end up.
Let’s start with Uhtred and his faithful Merry Men. Uhtred soon discovered that Bebenberg had lost his way. In fact, he’s almost at the end of the season, but admits his rightful home is no longer there. His uncle may be gone, but his cousin is now the boss.
In Season 4, Uhtred had to be separated from his children. Stiorra and Sigtryggr left together. The two respect each other and Sigtryggr wants her as his “hostage”. Ethelfried and Edward agree, but Uhtred disagrees. Still, he lets Stiorra go because he knows that’s what he wants.

His son Uhtred returned to his church. However, it’s clear there’s more to come as father and son respect each other.
I’m still trying to figure out what happened between Uhtred’s second child and Gisela. I know what happened in the books, but the show completely removed the character. It’s not even mentioned!
However, Uhtred now has another son to take care of. She brought Edward’s first son, Æthelstan, to Cookham to care for him. Uhtred can develop Æthelstan as a warrior, and we know Æthelstan will be the first king to unite England.
As for Finan, Sihtric and Baby Monk, they are still with Uhtred. Sihtric’s family isn’t mentioned at all, so I can only assume they have Uhtred’s youngest child and live somewhere safe (honestly, this stuck with me throughout season four). Finan is apparently in love with Eadith, Ethelred’s lover turned savior to Ethelred’s daughter. Osferth isn’t mentioned, but we can assume he’s going about his day-to-day life.

Sigtryggr is willing to negotiate with Edward after taking Winchester. All Sigtryggr wants is to find land and live in peace. Although Ethelfred had just retaken Iofervik from the Danes, Edward agreed that the land could belong to the son of Ivar the Boneless. Wessex, Mercia and East Anglia would remain in Saxon hands, and the Danes would have Northumbria. It was the last kingdom to be recovered to establish a unified England.
Everyone seems to be back to normal life. Edward probably ruled from the Winchester family, while Ethelfred was Lady Mercia, although she sometimes referred to herself as Queen Mercia. She promises an alliance with Wessex to help realize the dream Alfred has always had.
However, it wasn’t all happiness. Aelswith was poisoned by Aelsheim, but no one but his daughter knew he did it. He did this to ensure that Athelstan would not be raised by Elswith and become a threat to his nephew after Edward’s death. How long will it take people to find out the truth?
Esselheim seems to be living a life of luxury again. However, Edward did not trust him, as Ethelheim took on the responsibility of interpreting Edward’s words on several occasions.

It seemed Elsevith was going to be poisoned. Although not explicitly stated, the poison he drank was hard to beat.
We know that Cnut died (without a sword in his hand), but Heston managed to come alive again. He escaped before the Battle of Winchester and went to fight another day.
Brida also survives, despite warning Uhtred that if he lets her live (again!), she will come back for him. Uhtred wouldn’t kill her, especially considering she was pregnant. Last I saw, she was bearing Canute’s son. He literally broke the curse.
We know that Beocca died at Bebenberg, sacrificing herself for young Uhtred. However, Father Pyrlig is still alive. She might still be with Edward.
